Eastern Ontario Health Unit Warns of Well Water Testing Scam
2010-04-01

The Eastern Ontario Health Unit is warning residents of the five Eastern Counties of a possible scam by one or more individuals falsely claiming to work for the Health Unit.

The Health Unit has recently received a number of calls about an impersonator who has been contacting home owners and requesting to visit their homes to test their well water. The caller claims to be a representative of the Eastern Ontario Health Unit.

The Health Unit warns residents that this caller is not a Health Unit employee or representative. The Eastern Ontario Health Unit does not contact or visit home owners to test their well water. The Health Unit does provide a free well water testing program, however all water samples are collected by the home owner, not by Health Unit employees.

If an individual claiming to represent the Eastern Ontario Health Unit contacts you and asks to visit your home to test your well water, please call the police.

For more information about the well water testing program offered by the Eastern Ontario Health Unit, call 613-933-1375 or 1 800 267-7120 and ask for the Health Line.
