Food Inspection Reports
One of the ways in which the Eastern Ontario Health Unit fulfills its Health Protection mandate is through the inspection of restaurants and food services that serve meals to the public. Through these inspections, public health inspectors can find practices that could make food dangerous for human consumption (e.g. create a risk for food poisoning), and take actions to correct them. Each premises is visited one to three times a year, based on its risk assessment. The level of manipulation and the population served are used to determine the risk level of the restaurant or food service. Public health inspectors examine: - food sources
- how food is handled
- sanitary condition of the facility
- equipment condition and function
- dishware sanitization
- pest control
- chemical storage
- maintenance
- potability of water supply
- sewage disposal
A full review of the results is recorded in a food establishment inspection report. The public is able to request a copy of inspection reports created in the last 12 months, free of charge. If you would like to receive a copy of a food establishment inspection report, please fill out a request form, available on the Eastern Ontario Health Unit website (see Resources below), as well as at local Health Unit offices. You will receive a copy of the report within two weeks from the date you placed the request. Please note that this procedure is temporary, and will eventually be replaced by reports that are publicly accessible online.
The Health Unit can only accept requests for one establishment at a time. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the Food Premises Disclosure System, call the Health Unit at 613-933-1375 or 1 800 267-7120 and ask for the Health Line.
