  Reporting an Outbreak

A school must report to the Eastern Ontario Health Unit when 10% or more of students or staff are absent at one time with respiratory symptoms, or diarrhea/vomiting.

Respiratory symptoms include a combination of any of the following: fever, cough, runny nose, sneezing, nasal congestion, sore throat, hoarseness, malaise, myalgia or loss of appetite. Gastrointestinal symptoms include vomiting and/or diarrhea, with or without fever.

If a student is sick at school, isolate or remove him from other students, call his parent to pick him up, and increase the cleaning of common touched surfaces.

Reinforce hand hygiene with all students in the school.

To report an outbreak, call 613-933-1375 or 1 800 267-7120 and ask for the Health Line.
