Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding is the best way to feed your baby. Health Canada recommends breastfeeding exclusively for the first 6 months, after which you should introduce solids while continuing to breastfeed. Not only does breastfeeding provide a baby with warmth and physical contact, breast milk also provides him with all the nutrients he needs. It contains the mother’s antibodies which can help fight off illnesses. Breastfed babies have fewer incidences of diarrhea, respiratory illnesses, ear infections, colic and allergies. Breastfeeding is simple, free, always ready and at the right temperature. The Eastern Ontario Health Unit has a variety of services that offer help and support while you’re breastfeeding.
