Private beaches
The Health Unit is not mandated to test the water quality of private beaches. Beach operators are responsible to monitor the bacteria levels of their water. The Health Unit strongly invites private beach owners to test the water quality at least once a month throughout the operating season.
Public Health Inspector may perform water testing on a private beach with public access where the Medical Officer of Health believes swimming may result in an illness caused by bacteria levels exceeding the safe swimming limit.
